You can find both of these glowing yellow flowers blooming on mountain sides, meadows and forest trails in our northern landscape. Both flowers are rich food for pollinators and bring a beautiful glow to the landscape.

Folklore tells a story that humans learned the value of Arnica from mountain goats, who would seek out the Arnica plant after falling on steep mountainsides. Observing the animals instincts, folks began to apply the herb for bruises in the form of external salves.

The Latin name for Goldenrod is Solidago, which means, ‘whole’ and is thought to be a reference to its reputed healing powers. Goldenrod has a bad rap for creating allergies but is often mistakenly for ragweed, the plant responsible for the allergies !
