The Maker
Welcome and thank you for visiting our website. My name Freya Fawn Giles. I operate Fawn and Crow Apothecary with the help of my love of 21 years, Mark Skwarok. I am a descendent of British, Irish and Scottish settlers born on the unceded traditional territory of the Secwépemc nation and now live on the unceded traditional territory of the Wet'suwet'en nation.
My most influential mentor was my mother, Rebecca, a self-taught herbalist who practiced crafting folk remedies. Walking through the woodlands with her, as she delicately gathered leaves, roots and resins in her funky baskets, remains etched in my earliest memories. She has since left his earth but her gentle spirit guides my hands in many ways.
8 years ago I left the city and returned back to rural living. I began immersing myself in practicing the ways of my ancestors by growing food, medicinal herbs and continuing my studies of bioregional plant medicines. Learning the alchemy of the plant world and spending time in the wilderness has become a significant focus in my life. Since returning to the land I have been crafting salves, infused oils, tinctures and potions for loved ones and then started selling to my community in 2017.
My journey into herbalism was significantly awakened by a back injury that caused me to live with chronic pain. This change in my life prompted me to concentrate on remedies that aid in healing pain and trauma. This encounter with pain has bestowed upon me a profound gratitude for the healing properties of botanical medicines, thereby intensifying my passion for crafting plant based offerings that provide solace to others. The plant world evokes in me a profound admiration. Within it, I discover my connection to enchantment, serenity, and balance.
Mark helps me in every part of this adventure from growing gardens, dreaming new offerings, and packaging, but most of all encouragement. He is the Crow in Fawn and Crow Apothecary !
Thank you for being here and checking out our offerings.
